The Opening of OFF℃, Underground Art Cultral Space
Undergroundartchlnnel, which started as a website(www.undergroundartchannel.net) in January, 2005, opens offline cultural space, OFF℃(OFF do-ci) and constructs new network of the non-mainstream artists near the Hongik Univ. on this 13th, June.
What is Undergroundartchannel(UAC)?
Undergroundartchannel started as Web_Vol.1, the space of experimenting media and personal communication of art in January, 2005. From June, 2006, new version of Undergrounartchannel Vol.2, the online networker for artists who experiment on media and produce art languages, has searched new systems of arts communication based on Web.
Undergroundartchannel(UAC) has sublated the former art communicative structures which have only depended on offline. Constituting the on-line community for artists, UAC introduced the media art works, constructed database of media artists and their works, and communicated with a wide range of netizens. With the constant attention and resources which participating artists and online users showed, these experiments of UAC brought new waves in South Korea’s art world and became significant attempts.
OFF ℃?
Now, on the basis of these achievements over the past three years, UAC opens the new art experimental space, "OFF℃(OFF-doci)" with the 40 or so artists, who are the participants of UAC. “OFF ℃” is a space for searching for the art language and the communication between artists and audiences in on/offline. OFF℃ is planning to provide the gallery’s own projects, various programs prepared by the UAC’s programmers or directly by the artists of UAC, and the ‘Red Video Project’which is both an archive and a rental system of art video and film works in UAC. In addition to these, OFF℃ is a ‘tough’ art space so far as the visitors can appreciate the non-mainstream artists, have some tea or beverages, and listen to music.

Purpose of Workshop planning
Undergroundartchannel now provides a much-easier way for various non-mainstream artists to communicate and interact with each other and the general public through offline community, OFF℃. To celebrate the upcoming OFF℃’s opening in June, Undergroundartchannel plans to hold internal workshop with the following theme: On & Offline network experimentation of various artists, discussion about the present and future of the Undergroundartchannel.
Audio-visual theorist, artists community, OFF℃’s programming team and operation team come together under one roof from both online and offline space in search of questions and answers about the present and future of the Undergroundartchannel.
